Gomasio (sesame salt)

1 cup hulled sesame seeds     (note if you use unhulled sesame seeds they are  darker in color and contain oxalic acid)

1 tsp to 1 Tbsp sea salt

optional:  Toasted and crumbled dulse (sea vegetable)

Dry toast the sesame seeds in a heavy skillet over medium heat on the stove top.  Stir constantly for 5+ minutes until seeds darken and become aromatic.  Turn heat off and add salt.   Add optional dulse.  Grind this mixture in a mortar and pestle and store in a glass jar.  You can also pulverize this mix in a small chopper/blender.  Makes a nice salty condiment to have on the table for plain cooked foods or salads.  When cool, store in a glass jar with lid.
