October 20, 2012 Chapter Meeting, Hawthorne Valley School, 3-5 pm


When:
  Saturday, October 20, 2012, 3:00 – 5:00 pm

Where:  Hawthorne Valley School (Assembly Hall)
Situated at the end of the white building on the right side of the school.

What:

  • A few short, informational films on Healthy Diets by Sally Fallon Morell, President of the Weston A. Price Foundation and  co-author of the classic cookbook, Nourishing Traditions.
  • Danielle Sinclair-Whitby, presently studying at the Nutrition Therapy Association will be sharing information from the training course.  She will also describe how her family (including young children) made the transition to a wheat-free diet.

What else:

· We will be sampling an array of lacto-fermented vegetables, raw cheeses and wheat-free bread (all donated by Hawthorne         Valley Farm), as well as well-prepared kale!

  • Please contribute $5 towards the cost of space rental and educational materials.
  • Bring a friend who is interested in learning more about restoring nutrient-dense foods in our diet.

Making Swiss-Style Cheeses

Ever wonder where the big holes come from in Swiss cheese? Join for a hands-on day of making two different styles of Swiss cheese. We will make, taste, and discuss different types of Swiss cheeses.    Join Hawthorne Valley Farm’s cheesemaker, Peter Kindel, for a hands-on workshop in home cheesemaking. Class size is limited. Making Mozzarella

Who doesn’t love fresh, silky Mozzarella? Learn to make and stretch your own Mozzarella. From milk to curd, you’ll learn the steps to producing your own beautiful, homemade batch of cheese, followed by a tasting.

Making Cheddar

Perhaps the most popular and most demanding cheese to make in the world. Learn how to make cheddar from start to finish. From milk to curd, you’ll learn the steps to producing your own beautiful, homemade batch of cheese, followed by a discussion and tasting of some of the best cheddars available.   Join Hawthorne Valley Farm’s cheesemaker, Peter Kindel, for this hands-on workshop in home cheesemaking.
